Florida Historic Naval Ship Association
To preserve and celebrate Florida’s naval and maritime heritage, honoring service, connecting and inspiring communities and future generations.
The Florida Historic Naval Ship Association (FHNSA) is an IRS 501.c.3 Approved Non-Profit that owns the Jacksonville Naval Musuem (JNM).
The FHNSA was first established to create the USS Charles F. Adams Naval Ship Museum. The Navy in 2019 decided not to donate the Adams. When this news broke, the FHNSA was contacted by the USS Orleck Naval Museum. Since January of 2020, FHNSA has visited the Orleck multiple times and spent over $770,000 toward the quest of the Orleck as Jacksonville’s first naval museum ship. It is projected to spend approximately $2.8 million to bring the Orleck Museum Ship to Jacksonville to become the center piece exhibit of the Florida Historic Naval Ship Association in Jaccksonville.

During this time the FHNSA Mission and Vision changed to better suit the Jacksonville community and future stability of museum operations. The museum operating name would be rebranded to “Florida Historic Naval Ship Association” with the future goal of representing a larger part of Jacksonville and Florida's Navy history. That, to include an establishment of an Adams Memorial, the sail of the deactivated USS Jacksonville submarine, and hopefully naval aircraft to make a well-rounded naval historical museum. These several attractions would increase the overall STEM + History education opportunities and increase the connection to more navy veterans.
